They/Them

Bina Ickes is a recent graduate from East West College of Healing Arts and has a Bachelors in Health Science from DePaul University. They have always held an interest in movement and the human body, and both performed and taught dance for many years. She also worked alongside physical therapists for years as an exercise aid, where she helped lead patients through their assigned exercises and would guide them to make sure they were performing them as efficiently as they could. Bina has learned a lot through their own journey with pain and receiving several forms of bodywork. What they gained the most from their own experience is how empowering embodiment and self-guided healing can be. To step away from the idea of someone coming to “fix you” and instead work with someone that can aid in your own self discovery and care.

Bina took the structural bodywork elective with Jay as an instructor, and showed a great aptitude for this type of work. Witnessing and experiencing Jay’s work, helped solidify the importance of whole person attention for Bina and not just looking at the specific area of complaint. She will be offering structural deep tissue and movement based work with some influence from Tui Na techniques. They have plans to become trained as a Structural Integrator and in pelvic floor manual therapy. A session with Bina will be collaborative with the client and most likely involve movement and having the client get up off the table throughout the session so that they can see how their body feels not just on the table but as a human living in space. They do recognize that every client is different, and every day is different, so, every session will be tailored differently and they will work with the client in front of them to determine the best treatment plan.
